Saying Goodbye

Fellow nearlyweds and readers...

I'm sorry I've been absent. There's been a lot going on and there's a lot I have to share. It's not all good news, unfortunately, but not all bad either. First of all, my hunny and I have decided to postpone our wedding. There's a few other nearlywed misses that can relate to this decision. We just needed more time to plan and execute our ideas.

Also, any of you that have read or followed my previous posts (here, here, and here) know that my family didn't want us rushing down the aisle. While a one year engagement might be ideal for some, a year and a half engagement is what's best for us. My dad and stepmom, in particular had a lot to do with this decision. They wanted us to take our time and that's exactly what we've decided to do.

I'll be honest that at first, my fiance and I resisted changing our wedding date, which was scheduled for Ocobter 24, 2010, but I cannot tell you how relieved we are to have six more months of planning time. After a few long talks with our folks, some reviewing of the budget and our to do lists, we've decided to wait to get married this time next year in the spring of 2011. Again, this shouldn't come as a big surprise since I blogged about all of it. I blogged about my confusion about if I should have a fall or spring wedding, as well as getting my parents approval.

Rest assured, things are going well and we're really happy with the direction we're headed in. The additional time has we've given us all a chance to take a deep breath. It's taken a lot of pressure off of my parents and I feel confident that we're making the right decision.

The bad news is that I don't intend to blog for DCNearlyweds for an entire year. While I'm really excited to have an additional six months of planning time ahead, I don't think it's fair to other wannabe bloggers and to readers for me to blog for such an extended period of time. Plus, I don't want to commit to it since I'm moving at a much slower pace than I was. We're not in any hurry to book our vendors or start the DIY projects. We're really taking a step back from the wedding planning to enjoy the engagement and focus on other things.

Did any of you push your wedding date back?

Were you glad that you did?

Like I've mentioned, the decision to have our wedding next spring is one I'm really happy with and it finally feels like things are moving smoothly and in the right direction. I can't tell you the difference its made to have our families onboard and to be able to slow down with the wedding planning! We're even going to have an engagement party in May, to quench our thirst for a celebration.

I really hope you readers and fellow nearlyweds understand my decision to quit the blog. I love all of you and have a deep appreciation for the online wedding community, because you guys are just so awesome! I was so excited that I was able to blog for DCNearlyweds, that I never thought I'd give it up; however, I have given this a lot of thought and it's only fair to open up my spot to another bride blogger who fits the criteria of getting married in the fall 2010.

In a few months I may be ready to start blogging for a mainstream site again. In the meantime, I'll still be blogging on my own sit (here) a little and I'll definitely be by to check for updates on all of you and wedding inspriation too!

Take care and happy marriages to you all!

Secretly Thinking Spring

The Dilemma:

We've found our venue and booked the date, but that's all we've done. It's unsettling to admit, but even among those two decisions, I feel a bit of unsuredness and remorse. I love Oxon Hill Manor (our venue) and I am undoubtly getting married there, but our date is scheduled as October 24, 2010, and I've secretely been thinking about having a spring wedding, not a fall one.

Initially I thought I wanted a fall wedding, because we love that time of year and we'd have about a year to plan. However, the hectic holidays and now-very-cold wheather has me thinking otherwise. I've been so indecisive about everything thus far (our colors and our theme), but I think that if we were having a spring wedding I wouldn't be having such a hard time making decisions. I've got so many ideas for a spring wedding. The list goes on and on. I can see it all in my mind's eye -- a beautiful spring day,  soft colors, flowers in full bloom, and the sun is warming the air... Ahh it's such a refreshing thought!

Spill the Beans:

My secret isn't really a secret because we've talked about having a spring wedding. We've actually talked about it quite a bit, but we haven't commited to it yet. I think both of us think (May, the spring month we like) is just too far away! Adding an additional 7 months to the planning seems excessive. What do you think? Do you wish you had more time to plan and prepare?

I think more planning time would be great, but that's because I'm a girl that loves weddings. Plus, I know this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm not ready for it to be over in 8 months! I love for it to last forever!

Lacking Ideas for a Fall Wedding:

If we were getting married in May, I'd love to stick with our original color palette of light pink, creme, and green. I like spring colors. I'd also love to incorporate a butterfly theme (have you ever seen a butterfly in October? I didn't think so). I want to have fans and umbrellas outside during our ceremony. I want tulips. I want more daylight and a "May'd for eachother," Save the Date...

So while I continue to covet all of these spring elements, I figured I might as well share them with you. Here are a few pictures that inspire my secretly for thinking spring:

How did you decide what season you'd get married? Did you and your fiance agree immediately on the time of year? How long did you have to plan?

Picking the Date - July 3, 2010

Mr. UVA proposed in March of 2008. Of course, being the planner that I am, we started talking timelines right away. But, let me tell you, a lot of work went in to picking the date (and opinions).

I wanted to get married in spring if only for the flowers - peonies, tulips, ranunculus, anemones...but spring 2009 just seemed too soon. My older sister (a UVA grad) was married last June and we figured that my parents would probably appreciate a little time to recoup. Mr. UVA would just be finishing his first year, and planning a wedding during that would be way too much stress and pressure. And one of the groomsmen (the friend who introduced us and secretly warned Mr. UVA against getting too serious with troublemaker little me) was scheduled to be overseas with the PeaceCorps until this winter and we wanted to wait until he came back. We had a lot going against us getting married in the spring of 2009...so we figured, "why not wait another year?".

Problem solved - spring of 2010....but my little sister graduates from high school next spring. So, without knowing the date of her graduation, spring was out...so we moved into summer. Conveniently enough, the rates for the venue that we chose go down quite a bit between June and July (*tip for all you other soon-to-be's: check out other months than the peak spring months for venue discounts).

While I'm a little sad about the lack of spring flowers on our big day we are really happy with our date. So save it - July 3, 2010.

Talk to you soon!

Whirlwind Week!

Good afternoon Fellow brides & brides-to-be! Why has Miss Rehoboth been so silent? Well, outside of a debilitating summer cold, there has been wedding planning in the air! We've nailed down a date and a place! DRB & I are getting hitched on May 16, 2009 at the Lewes Yacht Club. And, I couldn't be more excited!

Adrienne at LYC is just fabulous to work with and the club is BEAUTIFUL, it totally personifies me, us and what I want our wedding to be about. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beach setting. It has parking, great facilities (indoor & outdoor) and a fantastic staff, including their hot-shot new 24 year old chef! His menu selections look DIVINE!
